Day 1 - York England

Day One of our journey unfolded in the historic embrace of York, beginning with a hearty breakfast at our hotel, fueling us for the adventures ahead. The morning air was crisp as we embarked on a brisk hike, ascending the hill to the venerable National Railway Museum, the sanctum of the legendary Flying Scotsman and a treasure trove of train history. Standing amidst these colossal machines, some with wheels as tall as a man was awe-inspiring. The sheer scale and the engineering prowess of these locomotives were beyond what photographs could capture.

The museum was an absolute delight, offering a walk through a rich tapestry of railway history, with artifacts and stories we had never encountered before. Some were relics of age; others were inventions born in England, never crossing the Atlantic to the States. As we meandered through the exhibition, capturing moments in time with our cameras, we encountered plaques and exhibits that spoke of a bygone era, promising to share these captured memories, albeit a bit unpolished for now, with you all.

Our exploration continued as we sought out the culinary comforts of a traditional English pub, where the fare was as delightful as the ambiance. The beer flowed with excellence, but it was Sandy’s encounter with an apple cider, so delectable that a second was ordered without hesitation, that truly captured the essence of our gastronomic adventure.

Post-lunch, our journey took us to the heart of old-town York, where we began to acquaint ourselves with its historic charm. With plans to delve deeper into this exploration tomorrow, once the Easter crowds disperse, we were content to absorb the initial impressions of a city rich in history and character. Join us as we continue to unravel the layers of this enchanting city, where every stone and street has a story to tell.
